Sean Tucker

Inspiration, Motivation

X

Sean Tucker’s first professional flying experience was in Stearman biplanes modified for crop dusting. Working as a crop duster pilot in 1975, he bought his first aerobatic aircraft and started competing in contests. A string of successes in local and regional contests led to national recognition and finally to the coveted title of "U.S. National Advanced Aerobatic Champion". Many more notable awards followed, including being named "Airman of the Year" in 1988 and "Ambassador of the Air," in 1991, by the California Legislature. On the international airshow circuit, his high-energy aerobatic routines, original flying style, and infectious personality have rocketed him to the top. In 1992, Sean became the first in history to capture both the "Art Scholl Memorial Showmanship Award" and the "Bill Barber Award for Showmanship" in the same year. General Aviation News and Flyer named him #1 male airshow performer. With 15,000 hours of flight time, he holds a Commercial/instrument pilot in single and multi-engine aircraft and helicopter ratings. Sean flies hard-charging, power aerobatics in his highly modified Pitts S-2S, one of the hottest biplanes in the world. Sean’s enthusiasm, energy and love of flight are as evident on stage as it is in the air.

Speaker Biography

Since beginning his air show career in the mid-70s, Sean Tucker has flown more than 700 performances at more than 300 airshows, in front of more than 60 million fans. Each year Tucker entertains about 10 million fans at 25 shows throughout North America. "I like to think that I bring the fans' dreams of flying into the plane with me; and there's nowhere I'd rather be than in the cockpit. That's why I train so hard to keep the edge!"

Sean D. Tucker is "Aerobatics' Own Ambassador". Fiercely competitive, Sean readily admits he was once afraid of flying. To conquer his fears, he enrolled in an aerobatic training course, overcoming what seemed like impossible obstacles. By 1988, Sean was crowned the U.S. National Advanced Category Aerobatic Champion and is now one of the premier air show performers and aerobatic pilots in the world! He currently serves as a FAA designated ACE (Airshow Certification Evaluator) where he spends countless hours counseling young air show performers on their routines. Sean also mentored the stars of tomorrow, a program for up and coming performer which made its debut at Oshkosh in 2003. No one who has ever seen Sean fly will ever forget it . . . and no one who has ever met him, or learned from him, will either.

Sean has logged over 20,000 hours flying, which if done all at once, would take over two years, 24 hours a day. Twice during his performance, Sean flies the aircraft backwards -straight down - tail-first at more than 100 mph. Over half of Sean’s maneuvers are original and have never been duplicated by another aerobatic pilot.
